Prior to leaving her work as a public defender, Debbie worked in the elite homicide unit, representing clients facing the most serious crimes in the criminal justice system.
Debbie’s fierce advocacy was featured in two New York Times articles, “In Brooklyn Gun Cases, Suspicious Turns to the Police” and “Scrutinized, a Gun Case in Brooklyn is Adjourned” as well as highlighted in The Atlantic, “The Failure of New York’s Bail Law.” She was also a New York Times op ed contributor “Five Black Teenagers, Innocent, Face a Lifetime of Guilty.” Debbie was featured in the book “Charged,” by New York Times bestselling author Emily Bazelon, as Ms. Bazelon followed Debbie’s representation of a client charged with a loaded firearm through the Criminal Justice System.
When she’s not fighting on behalf of her clients, Debbie relaxes by running ultra-marathons, rock climbing, mountaineering, and traveling to remote destinations. She’s also a proud dog mom to a 6-year-old lab rescue.
